OH Team Tries Vegan Bakes for the Animals and the Planet

Vegans and non-vegans alike will surely love Vegan Bakes for the Animals and the Planet.

The Organicaholics Team tried their first-ever vegan donuts made by Vegan Bakes for the Animals and the Planet.

Before I share more of our thoughts about it, I’ll share a short story about how I came upon this online bakery.

Last year, I started to try more plant-based alternatives to meat. I incorporated more vegetables and fruits in my meals as well. On weekdays, I would follow a vegan or a vegetarian diet, and then I would eat meat once or twice during the weekends.

I shared my own concoctions whenever I did my meal prep for the week over on my Instagram and Facebook Stories, and it was because of this that a friend of mine messaged me and asked: “Where can I buy vegan meals?”

I knew a few already that I’ve tried (and loved!), but I wanted to ask for another friend’s recommendations.

That’s how I knew about Vegan Bakes for the Animals and the Planet for the first time.

Vegan Bakes to celebrate OH Launch Day

Based in South Caloocan, Vegan Bakes is a family-run business that makes and sells 100% plant-based baked goods ranging from donuts, cookies, muffins, and bread to ensaymada, pan de coco, and other pasties on their menu.

Last April 22 (on Earth Day!), we launched Organicaholics Digital Magazine. I suggested that we could have food to celebrate with, and that’s how Vegan Bakes got into the picture!

For our choice, we ordered Assorted Donuts which consisted of the following:

  • Choco-filled donuts
  • Vegan Yeasted donuts
  • Cake donuts

This one dozen set cost only P280! The price won’t change depending on what flavors you choose.

If you do the Math, it’s like PHP23.00 for one piece. Not bad at all!

You get more than what you pay for because these donuts are large!

What we thought of Vegan Bakes donuts

Vegan Bakes donuts are 100% plant-based. The main ingredients they use include coconut oil, hard wheat flour (bread flour), washed cane sugar/brown sugar for the dough, and powdered sugar for the glaze. No dairy products like cow’s milk or butter were used to create these delectable donuts.

Under Vegan Filled Donuts:

  • chocolate streusel coating
  • with dark chocolate and almonds
  • matcha-filled and glazed with almonds
  • ube-filled with ube streusel coating

Ever the chocolate lover, Mich got the dark chocolate streusel, while Cathy had the matcha-filled one.

According to their report, there was a lot of filling inside, and it was just the right amount to go with the donut itself. In comparison, some donuts in the market may have a little filling, but this one definitely made my friends happy with the proportion!

Here is Mich’s verdict: “The service is good; the seller was accommodating through our online conversation! The price is just right for a dozen assorted donuts at PHP280.00—you can even try various flavors. It’s not too sweet, so your taste buds won’t easily feel cloyed. They’re also good to partner with coffee. Because it was heavy, it felt like an instant meal to me. Definitely great for sharing!”

Under Vegan Yeasted Donuts:

  • dark choco with nuts
  • salted caramel with nuts
  • cinnamon
  • strawberry

Jay had the cinnamon donut, and this is what he has to say about it: “This is my first time eating a vegan donut. It looks like one of the donuts I’ve tried before, but this donut doesn’t have any dairy in it. The sweetness level will please most people—it’s not too sweet, and the size is unexpectedly big! It’s larger compared to regular donuts out there.”

Under Vegan Cake Donuts:

  • 2 choco butternut
  • 2 choco coconut

The Vegan Cake Donuts varied in size, density, and texture in comparison to the other two kinds. They were smaller but much more compact. It actually felt like an in-between of a brownie and a cake, which I have no qualms about—I like both cakes and brownies!

Look at those toppings!

We wanted to have more—trust us—but the donuts were filling! (We couldn’t eat more than one piece that afternoon we launched Organicaholics.) They were also generous in toppings.

Vegans and non-vegans alike will surely love Vegan Bakes for the Animals and the Planet!
